Turn on Vizio TV Using the SmartCast App

The simplest way to turn on your television when you've lost or misplaced the remote is through the Vizio SmartCast app for iOS or Android.

1. Download the Vizio SmartCast app for Android from Google Play or go to the App Store and download the app for iOS, depending on your device.
   

2. If this is your first time using the app, you'll need to pair it. Select Devices > Add in the upper-right corner. You'll be prompted to hold your phone near the device for a short time.

3. Once paired, select Control at the bottom of the screen.

4. Select Devices in the upper-right corner and choose your display from the list.

5. Once selected, you can control the television as if your smartphone were a remote: Use it to turn the TV on or off, adjust the volume, change the channel, set the aspect ratio, and more.

   

   You don't have to open the app to turn on the television. If the TV is off, streaming anything from your smartphone to the TV will cause it to automatically turn on.

How to Turn on Your Vizio TV With a PS4

If you're an avid gamer, you may want to streamline the process of jumping into a game. Here's how to make your television turn on just by starting up a game console.

1. Connect your PlayStation 4 console to the Vizio television using an HDMI cable and start it up.

2. Select Settings > System.

3. Select Enable HDMI Device Link.

   

4. When you turn on your PlayStation 4, the Vizio TV will automatically power on and switch to the correct input. In addition, selecting that input from the list will automatically turn on the PlayStation 4.

How to Turn on Your Vizio TV With the Nintendo Switch

The process is slightly different for Nintendo Switch users.

1. Connect your Nintendo Switch console to the Vizio television via the dock.

2. From the Home screen, select System Settings.

   

3. Select TV Settings in the left column, and then scroll down the list and select Match TV Power State to turn it on.

   

4. When you put your console to sleep, the input will switch off. When you power the console on, the TV will automatically switch to the proper input channel.

A Note on HDMI-CEC and Xbox One

Unfortunately for Xbox One players, there's no way to enable HDMI-CEC. While the Xbox can control the television, it does so through the use of an IR blaster and the Xbox Kinect, a peripheral item no longer produced by Microsoft. Why the console doesn't support this functionality is unclear, but fans have asked for it to be added since the Xbox's release.
